Honoring Our Nurses: Giovanni Rodriguez

Wednesday, May 11, 2016 8:36 AM

Being the best nurse he can be is more than just great bedside manners for Giovanni Rodriguez, Clinical Coordinator at NorthShore. In order to be the best nurse he can be, Giovanni is furthering his education.

Giovanni has been with NorthShore for nine years – where he first started as a staff nurse – and is now a Coordinator at Intensive Care Unit at Highland Park Hospital. In 2014, Giovanni received the Nursing Scholarship Fund which he used to seek his master’s degree in nursing to become a family nurse practitioner.

Being a Clinical Coordinator, Giovanni not only works with patients; but he also helps train his staff on new equipment, new procedures, manages schedules and helps educate new staff.

“With the scholarship fund award, I am able to focus on school. Otherwise, I would likely need to take on a second job for books and other classroom expenses,” says Giovanni. By taking advanced classes, he is able to better explain to colleagues the physiology behind patient care. Furthering his knowledge now only benefits himself, but those who work with Giovanni, as well as the patients.

Giovanni plans to be done with school in 2016.

National Nurses Week, May 6-12, is a perfect time to thank a nurse who went above and beyond. Patients and their families can Say Thanks And Recognize their favorite NorthShore nurse with a gift to the Nursing STARs Program. If a nurse has made a difference in your life, please consider honoring them this National Nurses Week.
